The Story Behind Loy Krathong

Loy Krathong ('floating basket') originated in the Sukhothai Kingdom, possibly from Hindu traditions honoring water deities. The festival thanks the goddess of water, Mae Khongkha, and asks forgiveness for water pollution. It dates back over 800 years.
